The “This is My Story” campaign from Project:1200 started in January of 2012 as part of an ongoing battle to protect the silent victims of Big Tobacco. We ask the community to be involved through our video campaign. Second hand smoke exposure while riding in a vehicle effects thousands of Utah children every day. It has even been stated that the exposure to toxins in a car is even higher than that in a bar. This is why five U.S. states have already places bans on smoking in cars with young people and several more have similar legislation in the works. What “This Is My Story” aims to do is bring awareness and action of this issue to the community. Secondhand smoke has been known to cause SIDS, asthma, ear infections, heart disease, and other severe health effects in children. The danger doesn’t stop when a child is not in the car. Thirdhand smoke is when the toxins and carcinogens seep into the fabrics and surfaces of the car and is then absorbed or ingested by a person. People often say smoking is a choice. But often, children don’t have that choice. They are forced to be in this toxic environment. Please, speak out for those who can’t. Talk to your peers, your family, and leaders within your community about this deadly issue.

Project:1200 is currently seeking video submissions from you! We want our amazing supporters and members of the community to be in our latest campaign “My Story”.
All you have to do is record a short (about 30 seconds or less) video completing the sentence “I choose to…”. This could be “I choose to skate.” “I choose to sing.” Just tell us what you choose to do instead of using tobacco and what makes you, you. Then email it to project1200@me.com, or submit through the submissions button here, along with your name, age, and location. Please make sure you record in a well lit and quiet area. You want to make sure we can see and hear you, right?
We are accepting submissions until April 30th to give everyone plenty of time to not only record their video, but to spread the word as well. This is a campaign we are really excited about, not only to get to know all about Project:1200’s supporters but as always, to educate about the dangers of tobacco.
